What are the clinic hours? When are health care providers expected to arrive?
WCCC provides services to 3-6 patients every Monday from 5:00 pm to 8:00
pm.
Health care providers are expected to arrive at 4:45 pm.
What is the protocol for a typical patient visit?
Patients will first be screened by an NYP Community Health Plan Facilitated Enroller for eligibility for public benefit programs (e.g. Medicare, Medicaid and Family Health Plus).
Following this eligibility screening, patients will be seen by the clinical team, which is composed of one 3rd/4th year student and one 1st/2nd year student.
The clinical team will then present the patient to the attending physician.
The patient will then be seen and examined by the attending physician.
The student volunteers and attending physician will work with the patient to develop an assessment and treatment plan.
Trained on-site student volunteers and student social workers will then facilitate access to prescription medications and scheduling of appropriate follow-up or referral appointments.
What happens if the patient is in need of emergency services?
Patients in need of emergent care will be referred to the NYPH Emergency Department.
What are the responsibilities of the attending?
The physicians’ responsibilities during the clinic session include:
Allowing the 3rd/4th year students to present each patient to them
Seeing and examining each patient
Ordering and reviewing appropriate laboratory tests
Working with the student volunteers and the patients to devise appropriate treatment plans.
The physicians’ responsibilities during the week following the clinic session include:
Being accessible via pager in order to respond to potential urgent lab results.
Reviewing non-urgent lab results and resulting treatment plans with the 4th year session coordinator. The session coordinator will arrange to meet with you at a time that is convenient for you.
Does my malpractice insurance cover my services at the WCCC?
All physicians will be covered for their service at the clinic if they currently have admitting priveleges at NYPH/Weill Cornell Medical College.
